Combining Clues Intermediate Analysis For Texas Hold’em

Poker is a game where players are making choices with limited amounts of information. Usually it is actually the combination of different clues that gives an observant poker player the info he or she needs to make a decision.

Position and psychology are two key elements to the game of poker. Combining these two can be very useful. For example, let say you watched a player closely and he has maybe seen 10% of the flop. This tight player suddenly makes a large raise under the gun. You would have to respect this raise for two reasons. He is out of position; players usually make bets out of position only when they have a good hand. You also know he is a very tight player. These two clues tell you that it more than likely to have top pocket cards. When running into a situation like this, some good example cards you might want to let go even though they are tempting hands to play are AQ, AJ, and AT off suit, or even lower pocket pairs.

Pretend now you have a very aggressive loose player who puts in a large raise under the gun. Know that this player is a little wild and is willing to play any two cards might warrant for you to call him with hands such as AQ or AJ off suit. Especially if you have seen this player comes in a game with Ace rags.

There are many more different types of clues you can pick up and use in combination with others to help you better read your opponents. Keep practicing and soon enough you will pick up on all of them.
