Limit Seven Card Stud: Basic Hand Selection
There are many different factors that determine which hands to play after “third street” in 7 Card Stud. Two beginning key concepts to consider when deciding on folding or to continue to play with a hand are the number of players involved in the hand, and what cards are no longer in play. Some hands play better against multiple opponents while others play better in heads up situations.
Big pairs do not play well in multi-way pots. Imagine your beginning cards are 5, Q, Q and you are sitting at a full table. Next you notice that among two opponents that folded, one of them had a Q showing and the other had a 5. At this point, your chances of having the best hand against the many opponents left who are more than liking drawing is highly unlikely. Therefore it is wise for situations like this to fold.
However, drawing hands play much better against multi-way pots; for example, having three cards already towards making a flush, a straight or both.
