7 Card Stud Beginning Key Hands
The “Rolled Up Trips”
Your starting hand is considered to be a “Rolled Up Tripped” when you are dealt three of the same cards (J, J, J). This is the strongest possible starting hand in a 7 Card Stud Game. Many players will attempt to slow play this hand. Anytime a move is made in poker, there should be a clear reason and goal in mind. This goes the same for slow playing. Unfortunately, many players will over slow play many hands to the point where it becomes and obvious pattern and a “tell.” This is a mistake especially in loose games. In limit, betting, or raising when you are first to act is good simply because it puts more money into the pot. Furthermore, it may help isolate players that you are dominating.
Choosing to slow play requires the right timing. An important thing to consider when slow playing a hand like “Rolled Up Trips” are is your current position. Imagine you are 4th to act and one person raises. Then the player before you re-raised. If you were to again, re-raise the pot, this may one, reveal your hand too early in the game and also scare potential players from adding to your pot. A simple call after the second re-raiser would be a good slow play because it would greatly disguise your hand from your opponents.
