Women of Poker get their own WPT

Women of Poker get their own WPT

Men have dominated the poker field years but that has certainly changed. With the performances of poker superstars Katja Thater and Annette Obrestad, it has been made clear that women can play poker just as well as the men. Clearly recognizing women in poker, the World Poker Tour (WPT) is not creating their own circuits to realm compete in.

WPT Ladies League and the No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament circuit, has been officially announced by the WPT. Robyn Moder, WPT Studios executive vice president said, "Women are a rising force in poker. By bringing a WPT ladies league and tour stops to top gaming destinations across the U.S., we hope to support and perpetuate the evolution of the sport and recognition of the women who play."

The WPTL inaugural season is set to start on January 20, 2008 and will be held at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City.

Moder also said, "With buy-ins ranging from $300 to $1,500, the tournament circuit provides multiple opportunities for amateur, semi-pro and professional female players to test their skills in a tournament environment at prestigious gaming destinations without having to pay a costly five-figure buy-in. Ladies also will have the chance at each stop to win a WPT title and a seat in the WPT Ladies' Championship."

The first season of the WPTL will end at the Bellagio with The Ladies' Championship set to take place in April. The GSN network will be filming and then airing the Ladies' Championship final table event giving women a chance to be in the spot light.

The inaugural WPTL is also going to be benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization. At each WPTL stop, players will have the opportunity to donate to the organization and on top of all that, 15% of the $1,500 championship buy-in will be donated as well.

One of the world’s biggest network and activists for those who survived through breast cancer, Susan G. Komen for the Cure continually push scientific research towards a cure while ensuring that those who are in need receive that quality care they deserve.
