2008 Canadian Open Poker Championship Is Set for MARCH!
Canada is now getting their own major poker event this spring 2008. The Canadian Open Poker Championship is set to take place during March 5-9, 2008. The event will be hosted at the Calgary, Alberta's Deerfoot Inn and Casino.
Five events are planned for the 2008 COPC and $1.3 million is the projected total prize pool. The main event is set to have a buy-in of $5,000 and unlike other tournaments, the format will be heads and limited to 128 players. This is a huge stray from the common freezeouts most other events hold.
The following is the schedule for the 2008 COPC.
Date Event
- 3-5 $500 Freezeout Charity Event
- 3-6 $5,000 Main Event (Day 1) --
- Heads-Up, 128-player max
- 3-7 $1,500 Short-Handed (6-player tables)
- 3-8 $1,000 Freezeout
- 3-9 $500 Freezeout
The March 5 event will have a player cap set at 250. A portion of the proceeds will be donated towards cancer research.

Germany Begins Gambling Ban for 2008
Germany, starting on January 1st, 2008, is putting into effect a series bans that essentially outlaws any form of online gambling in 13 of its 16 states. The ban stems from voting by the 16 German states in December. The new laws will basically make any form of Web-based gambling or funding of games over the internet illegal. More »

UBOC II Rocking Out Again

Following what seems to be an industry staple; poker pros Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth Jr. are hosting the UltimateBet Online Championship (UBOC) series of 2008.
