Poker Player Alliance In Washington D.C.

The Poker Player’s Alliance (PPA) is pushing hard in Washington D.C. against the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Beginning the night of October 22, 2007 and over the next few days, the PPA will be holding a conference and using the citizen lobbying process to speak with Members of Congress. Barry Greenstein, Andy Bloch, Howard Lederer, Chad Brown, Vanessa Rousso and Victor Ramdin are some of the poker professionals expected to make an appearance.

The conference will include programs such as "How to Lobby Congress, Member of Congress/Staff, various Meetings, Capitol Hill Reception and a Policy Forum. Included in the conference will also be speeches by Charles Nesson, Professor, Harvard Law; Sallie James, Policy Analyst, Cato Institute; Keith Whyte, Executive Director, Nat'l Council on Problem Gambling; and other experts in the field of public policy.

The arrival of this conference is actually at a crucial time. As stated on the PPA website, the Department of the Treasury and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve created instructions that would make banks, credit card companies and other payment systems to block transactions for "Unlawful Internet Gambling."

The new outlined instructions for banks, credit card companies and other payment companies cannot be put into action until 60 days had past. The 60 days serve as opportunity for all those with invested interests in the matter to express opinions and concerns.
