Poker History Made at Event 3 of WSOPE

Annette 'Annette_15' Obrestad of Norway broke World Series of Poker records by becoming the youngest and the first woman to ever win a WSOP main event. Obrestad also made history buying battling to first place in a field of 362 entrants in Europe’s first WSOP. She truly proved her worth and demonstrated great skill at the tough final table that lasted longer than the Las Vegas WSOP main event final table.

The final table chip count and seating began as follows:

  1. Seat 1: Johannes Korsar - 1,134,000
  2. Seat 2: Oyvind Riisem - 664,000
  3. Seat 3: John Tabatabai - 982,000
  4. Seat 4: Annette Obrestad - 697,000
  5. Seat 5: Dominic Kay - 490,000
  6. Seat 6: Matthew McCullough - 1,278,000
  7. Seat 7: Theo Jorgensen - 605,000
  8. Seat 8: Magnus Persson - 1,231,000
  9. Seat 9: James Keys - 172,000

James Keys was the first to be eliminated at the third hand. He started as the low chip stack and pushed all in with Qhearts and 10spades. Magnus Persson called with an Aclubs 9clubs. The landed Adiamonds, 7clubs, 3hearts, 10clubs and 3 diamonds. Keys was taken out but walked away at 9th place with a cash prize of £61,540.

Compared to his opponents at the final table, Theo Jorgensen had the most tournament experience on record. He made final tables at a Stud event in WSOP 2007 and also a final table at the Copenhagen EPT. Jorgensen was unfortunately knocked out at 8th. On the Jorgensen, with pocket tens decide to raise over the top against Tabatabai who unfortunately for him, had pocket kings. The board gave Jorgensen no help and so he was crippled after this hand. Three hands later, Jorgensen went all-in against Obrestad and was knocked out at 8th and received £85,070 in prize money.

Magnus Persson would be the next person to leave the tournament. After getting his chip stack get eaten away by the other remaining competitors, Persson ended up going all in on had 59 with Kspades and 10hearts. Tabatabai was the caller again with pocket kings. The board ended up bing Ahearts, 7spades, 5diamonds, 4spades and 3hearts. Persson took 7th and walked away with £114,030.

Only a few minutes later, Dominic Kay was eliminated by Matthew McCullough in hand 67. McCullough took Kay out in an all in situation by tripping his pair of 8 at the flop. Kay walked away at 6th place and £154,040 richer.

After Kay’s elimination, the rhythm of the game had slowed a bit. Suddenly, Ovyind Riisem raises preflop and both Tabatabai and McCullough called. Johannes Korsar then went over the top with his own re-raise and ended up being eliminated when Tabatabai tripped his own 6’s. Korsar took the fifth place prize of £191,860.
