World Poker Association Creates Code of Ethics

World Poker Association Creates Code of Ethics

An Ethics Code was recently created by The World Poker Association (WPA) for the creation and management of poker tournaments. The codes are intended to serve as a baseline standard for those who wish to professionally put on poker tournaments. In order for those professionals who wish to be a part of the WPA must submit to these codes especially the section that deals with “professional poker behavior.”

To be in good standing with the WPA, current and future members must sign an Ethics Compliance Pledge. The actual pledge is as follows:

As a condition of admission and continued membership in the World Poker Association

(WPA), I pledge to support and uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct in all aspects of poker competition and tournament activities, and hereby agree to comply with the WPA Code of Ethics as developed and periodically updated by the WPA and posted on its official website, www.wpapoker.org

The Ethics Code has been broken down into the following five sections: • General Provisions • Relationships Among Players • Relationships Between Players and Dealers • Player-Management Relationships • External Relationships Currently there are over 1,300 members in the WPA. Wendeen Eolis, the Vice Chair of the WPA and Chair of the Ethics Committee had this to say about these codes: "The Ethics Code is the cornerstone on which the WPA has established itself as a single, unified voice for millions in the commitment to professionalism in the worldwide poker community."
